AI Overview
RAMSdoc uses AI to help you create accurate, compliant RAMS documents faster. AI is available at every stage — from generating a complete document to identifying missed hazards and checking compliance against UK regulations.

How AI works in RAMSdoc
Section titled “How AI works in RAMSdoc”AI in RAMSdoc is designed around three principles:
1. You stay in control
Section titled “1. You stay in control”AI never modifies your document without your approval. Suggestions are presented for you to review, edit, and accept or reject. AI-suggested hazards are never auto-added — you choose which ones to include.
2. AI-generated content must be reviewed
Section titled “2. AI-generated content must be reviewed”Every AI-generated document starts in draft status with a clear banner: “This document was AI-generated and must be reviewed by a competent person before use.” AI is a productivity tool, not a replacement for competent review.
3. Context makes AI better
Section titled “3. Context makes AI better”RAMSdoc feeds the AI relevant context to improve output quality:
- Your industry and work type
- Hazards from your organisation’s hazard library
- Applicable UK regulations
- Your organisation’s past document patterns
- Site photos (if uploaded)
The more detail you provide, the better the output.
Section refinement
Section titled “Section refinement”At any point in the editor, you can ask AI to improve a specific section:
- Click into the section you want to improve.
- Click Improve Section in the toolbar.
- Optionally add an instruction — for example, “Add more detail about cable management” or “Make this simpler for non-English speakers”.
- AI rewrites the section based on your instruction and the document context.
- Review the suggestion and accept, edit, or discard it.
Cost: 1 credit per section refinement.
Translation
Section titled “Translation”Toolbox talks can be translated into common languages used on UK construction sites:
- Polish, Romanian, Portuguese, Bulgarian, Lithuanian
- Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali
- Spanish, Italian
To translate a toolbox talk:
- Open the toolbox talk.
- Click Translate.
- Select the target language.
- AI produces the translation with technical terms kept in English where appropriate.
- The original and translation are shown side by side.
Cost: 1 credit per language.
Limitations and accuracy
Section titled “Limitations and accuracy”AI is a powerful tool, but it has limitations you should be aware of:
- AI can miss hazards — it works from the description you provide. If you do not mention an aspect of the work, AI cannot assess it. Always review AI output against your own site knowledge.
- Regulations change — AI knowledge has a training cutoff. RAMSdoc’s regulatory monitoring keeps the regulation database current, but always verify critical regulatory references.
- COSHH exposure limits — AI-generated COSHH assessments include a reminder to verify workplace exposure limits against the current HSE EH40 publication.
- Site-specific conditions — AI cannot see your site. Upload site photos to improve hazard identification, and always check the output against actual conditions.
- Not a substitute for competence — AI helps competent people work faster. It does not replace the need for qualified health and safety professionals to review and approve documents.
Getting the best results from AI
Section titled “Getting the best results from AI”- Be specific — “Installing 50m of cable tray at 4m height in a live data centre using MEWP” gives much better results than “electrical work”
- Upload site photos — AI analyses photos to identify additional hazards and site conditions
- Answer follow-up questions — AI asks 3-5 targeted questions before generation. Answering accurately improves the output.
- Use section refinement — after generation, refine individual sections rather than regenerating the whole document
- Check against your site knowledge — you know conditions AI cannot see. Use AI as a starting point and add your expertise.
Credits
Section titled “Credits”All AI features except Smart Questioning and Duplicate Detection consume credits. See AI Credits for details on how credits work, what each feature costs, and how to manage your allowance.
